LEADERS

Bishop John W. Horne Jr., D.D

Powerful, compelling, and life changing: these are just of a few words that could used to describe the dynamic ministry of Bishop John W. Horne, Jr. As pastor of two of the most exciting churches in Austin and San Antonio, Texas, Bishop Horne is a humble visionary with an insatiable desire to fulfill God’s divine purpose for his life.

In 1976 Bishop Horne was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at Full Gospel Holy Temple of Forth Worth, Texas. After faithfully serving under the late Elder A. W. Holland and experiencing the phenomenal ministry of Apostle Lobias Murray (Overseer of Full Gospel Holy Temple Churches, Inc.), God called his dedicated servant to the pastoral ministry. Not knowing a single soul in Austin, Texas, Bishop Horne obeyed the voice of God and established the Full Gospel Holy Temple Church of Austin in June of 1985. The Lord truly blessed Bishop Horne’s obedience, as souls were continuously added to the church.

In 2003, Bishop Horne made another leap of faith by obeying God’s instructions to put a Full Gospel Holy Temple in San Antonio, Texas. Both the Austin and San Antonio churches are part of the Full Gospel Holy Temple, Inc. family of churches, where Apostle Lobias and Dr. Shirley Murray are the founders and overseers.

Bishop Horne, a diligent and compassionate leader, fervently strives to help those in need. He and his beautiful wife of 36 years, First Lady Barbara J. Horne, are the president and vice-president of Austin We Care, a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing clothing, groceries, and toys to at least 100 families in need during the Christmas holiday season.

Bishop Horne has also been recognized and received numerous awards from the community including: The Unsung Hero award from State Farm and KFIT Radio; recognition by state representatives Dawnna Dukes and Lloyd Doggett; Hometown Hero Award form KEYE 42 TV; Black Male Role Model Honoree by Austin’s Villager Newspaper; runner-up for Pastor of the Year by KFIT radio; National Registry of Who’s Who in executives and Professionals, and has been featured in Gospel Today as one of the World’s Most Loved Pastors.

Not only is Bishop Horne as great preacher and loving humanitarian, but he is also a remarkable author of several books , including: Power Through Fasting and Prayer, God’s Way to Greatness, When Pillars Get weak, The Will of God Concerning You, and Keys to a Successful Ministry. Borne from adversity, these books were written to encourage, inspire, and offer spiritual guidance to those experiencing similar challenges in their Christian walk.

According to Psalm 75:6-7 - “Promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” On July 22, 2006 during the Full Gospel Holy Temple Annual Holy Convocation, Austin and San Antonio F.G.H.T. joined their fellowship churches in celebrating the promotion of Pastor John W. Horne Jr. to the office of a bishop by Apostle Lobias Murray for his faithful years of service and for working well within the ministry.

Subsequently, because of his hard work, dedication to God’s word and his people, and his faithfulness, Bishop Horne was nominated for, and awarded, the Honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from St. Thomas Christian College of Jacksonville, Florida on February 22, 2009. Today, Bishop Horne has built a ministry that has outreach services spanning all of Austin and Central Texas, including local television, radio, street, nursing home, hospital, prison and helping hand ministries.

Evangelist Barbara Horne

Evangelist Barbara J. Horne has been a part of the Full Gospel Holy Temple ministry since 1976. Her first encounter with holiness happened under the spiritual leadership of the late Elder A. W. Holland and his faithful wife, Pastor Pearline Holland in Fort Worth, Texas. While in Fort Worth, Evangelist Horne dedicated her time and effort to making sure that God’s work was never left undone, as the Lord prepared her for higher heights and deeper depths in him. Evangelist Horne took all of the great teachings received from her Fort Worth leaders, along with her illustrious overseers Apostle and Evangelist Murray, and molded them into her own powerful ministry in the cities of Austin and San Antonio, Texas. As a result of her faith in God, obedience to her spiritual leaders, and her great love and respect for her husband, Evangelist Horne’s teaching ministry continues to grow and flourish. She teaches adult Sunday School Class, and through her dynamic teaching ministry, many have been blessed, healed and delivered. Additionally, Evangelist Horne is the co-writer of Welcome to the Family, a book dedicated to explaining the ministries of the Austin and San Antonio Full Gospel families to new members.

Evangelist Horne’s passion has always been for children. She continues to show this by making sure they know how important they are to her, to the ministry, and to God. Evangelist Horne is the founder of the Youth Ushers and Young People’s Ensemble. In addition, Evangelist Horne spearheads various activities concerning the youth and encourages them by providing those that exceed in school with rewards throughout the school year. As vice-president and co-founder of Austin We Care, Evangelist Horne also works diligently with her husband to make sure that Central Texas children and their families receive clothing, groceries, and food during the Christmas holiday.

Our First Lady also takes the time to impart knowledge into the women of our church concerning how to be Godly women according to Proverbs 31. She is the epitome of the Godly Woman and uses women’s meetings to share her knowledge of this subject. Her inspiration in ministry and graceful mannerisms are a powerful testimony to women everywhere. Evangelist Horne has been married to the love of her life, Bishop John W. Horne, Jr. for the past 37 years. She is the proud mother of three sons, Jamon, Jeremy and John, and one grandson, Kimon. A supportive wife, dynamic First Lady, nurturing mother, and grandmother, Evangelist Horne is a great example of graciousness and pure holiness to all that come into contact with her.
